A FAMILY BUSINESS    100% New Zealand owned and operated Covic Motors, the founding company from which Partmaster later evolved, has been active in the automotive industry since the 1950’s. In its early years Partmaster’s founder and current Chairman, Tony Covic, set up a small single car garage in West Auckland under the name of Covic Motors where he was both a panel beater and mechanic. On July 10th 1967 Covic Motors was incorporated and moved to new and larger premises, still in Lincoln Rd Henderson.  Along with the new premises Tony secured the rights to a new vehicle dealership selling Austin Morris vehicles and Nuffield Tractors  and with the addition of a motor spirits licence, Covic Motors became the first Europa petrol station in Henderson. Covic Motors continued to expand and with the deregulation of the oil industry, leased its petrol operations to B.P. Partmaster was established in 1996 emerging from the then Covic Motors, which had been trading in automotive parts and cars for many years. In its early years Partmaster operated a single outlet on Lincoln Rd. in West Auckland. With a very limited product range, (spark plugs, filters and fan belts), the company targeted trade clientele. All products were sourced locally and product range limitations were inevitable given the resistance from importers to supply a new entrant to the market. As demand grew, fuelled mainly through enthusiasm, attitude and a strong service commitment to our customers, so did the need to source products from overseas. Partmaster needed to guarantee supply lines, broaden the product range and secure product directly from overseas manufacturers. Over time sales increased as did the level of imported lines, with the company entering  into a number of agency and distribution arrangements. After two years operating from our base in Henderson we opened our second outlet in Christchurch, and it was at this time that Partmaster won the contract to supply the B.P. network nationwide. This signalled our arrival on the market as a serious contender. After branch number three was opened in Penrose we purchased Auto Trade Supply which had previously been a supplier to us and was one of the oldest automotive suppliers in New Zealand with outlets in Auckland and Hamilton.  These were eventually re-branded as Partmaster stores. The Partmaster network currently numbers 17 branches with additional sites forecast for the future. While constantly growing in size Partmaster remains a family owned and operated business, focused and determined to be the largest independently owned Automotive Parts Wholesaler & Retailer in New Zealand.
